Geek Force

Canadian Geek Force Agent Introduction

While doing some genealogy through the winter of 2016, I found some names in the archives that would be 3rd cousins to me, Gary & Craig Barwell.Ā  By good fortune, they too, have Abthorpe blood flowing through their veins šŸ™‚

Their names would hit my Facebook feed over the years, so after IĀ  made the familial connection, I took the next step, made it Facebook Official, and added them as friends! We realised quickly that we have a lot of mutual interest in the realm of retro British TV, Sci-Fiction/Fantasy, music, comic books, and most important of all, Star Wars!

On a lark, I told them I could acquire the dot CA equivalent, and host the Canadian Edition with some content and links back to the GF prime site, and here you are!

And now a little about me I have loved Sci-Fi TV and movies since the early 1970s, Star Trek and Doctor Who being the two main series that got me hooked. Many other similar series came along that I would follow. I suspect I will talk more about in later posts. I actively collected comics from the mid-70s to about the mid-80s. Batman was my absolute favourite! Between me and my brothers we would collect X-Men, Superman, Spiderman, Ironman, Hulk, Fantasic Four, Avengers and the list goes on. While I do not collect any more, I still like the idea of the hobby, and have enjoyed most of the movie adaptations that have come along in the 21st century.

I was drawn to just about anything that would involve space travel, science and/or historical fiction and/orĀ  fantasy (vis a vis Robin Hood) and just about whatever else came my way! What I did not realise at the time, was that the most revolutionary, game changing, life altering movie series to change my life came along in 1977, it was Star Wars! I remember seeing an afternoon showing at the shopping mall, and then leaving post haste to start buying the toys. Sadly, the collection did not survive the tyranny (sic) of my parents cleaning out my toy box, but I have memories of the hours spent playing with them!

Along the way, I will commiserate with the Barwell Bros and fellow Geek Force Friends on the halcyon of the 70s, 80s and maybe even the 90s. I will occasionally provide my Canadian perspective of some of the listed topics, near and dear to my heart!
